An Athenian pensioner, arrested last week in connection with the posting of photographs and video footage on the Internet of children as young as 2 being raped, was remanded in custody yesterday as suspicion mounts that he is a member of worldwide pedophile ring. The unnamed 72-year-old, a former manager at a US military base in Greece, was taken into custody after being questioned by a magistrate. The man, arrested in Kifissia last week, has been accused of being involved in the running of a website that allowed pedophiles from around the world to watch live webcasts of minors being raped. Police said they found videocameras and videotapes of children being abused in the pensioner’s possession. The scenes are being examined by officers to establish whether any of the children shown are among those that have been listed as missing in recent years. The suspect’s frequent trips abroad are also being scrutinized for any clues linking him to a wider, international pedophile ring in which police think he may played a part.
