Guilt-stricken robber caught returning loot
Ignoring the golden rule among lawbreakers of never returning to the scene of a crime, a 29-year-old man in Thessaloniki went back to a corner shop to hand over the money that he had just allegedly stolen – and was promptly arrested, according to reports yesterday. The unnamed man held up a convenience store in the Depo district of the city on Saturday afternoon with a gun, which police later identified as a fake. He forced the female owner to hand over 50 euros before making off in a car that was waiting for him outside and was driven by a 31-year-old accomplice, officers said. However, in an apparent crisis of conscience, the suspect returned to the shop minutes later to return his ill-gotten gains. In the meantime, the owner had notified the police. The officers, who were in the store when the men came back, made the easiest arrests of their careers.
