Police on the trail of ‘toughest gang ever’

A ring of Albanians believed to have staged dozens of burglaries, armed robberies and car thefts in Attica in the past eight months is «the toughest gang ever,» a senior police officer who oversaw the arrest of three gang members told Kathimerini yesterday. Officers are searching for another seven members of the ring, which is being held responsible for 39 burglaries, 14 armed robberies – mostly on gas stations and tavernas – and 10 car thefts, chiefly in the Mesogeia area, eastern Attica. The gang is said to have used violence in several cases, striking homeowners during burglaries and threatening their children. Interpol has been tipped off and is helping Greek police with their investigation. The three captured members, aged 21, 22 and 23, have been remanded in custody.
