Captain missing in rough Algerian seas
Rescue teams in Algeria were looking for a Greek captain late yesterday who went missing after the freight vessel which he was in charge of sent out an emergency signal on Sunday night, 66 miles off the African country’s port of Kikda. Authorities said that the Honduras-flagged Kostas issued the call for help after a shift in its freight caused the ship to tilt dangerously in rough seas. The seven-member crew, consisting of six Egyptian nationals and one Greek, was saved by a nearby ship after they abandoned the Greek-owned vessel on an inflatable raft. Authorities said that the 64-year-old captain, Pantelis Dilis, was the last on board and may have jumped into the water wearing a life jacket. The vessel was traveling from Spain to Cyprus.
