FUKUYAMA TURNAROUND

Political theorist who supported Iraq war, now says that it was a mistake Eight years after urging the Clinton administration to take a more hardline stance on Iraq, «End of History» author Francis Fukuyama has broken ranks with the neoconservative movement, also claiming that the Iraq war was a mistake. «It was an unacceptable risk to launch the war… It’s not just the execution. I think the war itself was a mistake,» he told Kathimerini English Edition during a visit to Athens. Meanwhile, traffic police were also looking for a driver in connection with a hit-and-run incident early Saturday morning on the Athens-Corinth national road. A Greek and a foreigner had been driving the two vehicles containing the migrants when they were stopped in the area of Potami. A third suspected accomplice, also a foreigner, was arrested later in Thessaloniki, where he had been awaiting delivery of the migrants, police said. Explosive devices An explosion caused by a homemade device in Nea Smyrni early on Saturday severely damaged a motorcycle and smashed the front window of a post office, police said. In a separate incident, four gas canisters exploded at a bakery in Ilion in western Athens, causing minor damage. No one has claimed responsibility for either of the attacks. Burnt body An unidentified man was yesterday found dead and severely burned in a park in Aghia Paraskevi in northern Athens, police said. The man, thought to be around 25 years old, was found at 1.30 p.m. with a bottle containing a flammable liquid next to him. Police said they are investigating whether the man set himself on fire. Fireworks Police on Saturday arrested three shop owners in Glyfada in southeast Athens for illegally selling firecrackers, which are often used to mark Easter celebrations. A total of 11,700 fireworks were confiscated from convenience stores and shops selling seasonal goods.
