3 jailed for race attack on Greek

MUNICH (AFP) – The granddaughter of German chancellor Franz von Papen, ally and predecessor of Adolf Hitler, was jailed for five years yesterday for her part in a brutal assault on a Greek man. Maria von Papen, who was 17 at the time of the attack in Munich in January 2001, was charged, along with her boyfriend and another skinhead, with attempted homicide and assault causing serious bodily harm. Her boyfriend – only identified as Christoph S. – was sentenced to six years imprisonment, the other main co-defendant to three and half years. The court heard that the girl was in a gang of young right-wing extremists and neo-Nazis who set upon the 31-year-old Greek in the street and seriously attacked him with kicks and blows. The life of the man, who suffered serious eye and bodily wounds, was only saved by the intervention of some young Turks.
