Rowdy British sailors given Crete jail term
Two crew members from a British warship docked in Crete were each handed jail sentences of two years and six months yesterday after being charged with an attack on two men in Hania on Saturday. The two men, who were not identified, allegedly harassed a woman as she was walking through the port area accompanied by her husband, aged 53. The husband was attacked when he reacted to the two crew members’ harassment of his wife, while a second man from Hania who intervened in the incident was also set upon, police said The sentences can be converted into fines, officers added. The two men are crew members aboard a military ship docked at the NATO Pier Facility in Marathi, northeast of Hania.
