Thieves nab 3 million euros
Three armed men held up an armored van in Kolonos, central Athens, yesterday and made away with more than 3 million euros in one of the country’s largest robberies, authorities said. The men, who were wearing motorcycle helmets, threatened the driver at gunpoint as he stopped for petrol at a service station at about 7 a.m. Police said that they forced the driver to open the van and then took four bags packed with 3.32 million euros. The gang then drove away in a vehicle which had been stolen last week from Palaio Faliron. The car was found by authorities shortly after the robbery with a gun clip containing 31 bullets inside, officers added. Police have launched a manhunt for the three suspects.
