Family gang caught after 113 robberies

A mother and her two sons, aged 29 and 30, have been arrested in Athens accused of breaking into 113 apartments in the last 10 months, netting them more than half a million euros, police said yesterday. The 51-year-old mother from Georgia would advise her sons where and when to break into a home and would then sell the stolen items or ship them to her homeland, police added. The two sons were arrested last week after a failed attempt at breaking into an apartment in Ano Glyfada. The family gang of thieves is thought to have mostly targeted homes in southeastern Athens, including Glyfada, Alimos, Ilioupolis and Argyroupolis during the middle of the day. A police inspection of the suspects’ home found 19,350 euros in cash along with jewelry, electrical appliances, computers and mobile phones.
