First official visit…
During his first official visit to the monastic community of Mount Athos in Halkidiki yesterday, Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis pledged funds from the European Union’s Fourth Community Support Framework to help preserve the area’s artifacts, buildings and natural environment. He also urged the monastic community to settle its dispute with the dissident Esphigmenou monks so Mount Athos’s image would not be damaged.
