Kenyan athlete Henry Tarus runs past ‘The Runner’ statue in central Athens yesterday on his way to winning the Athens Classic Marathon, which traces the historic route from Marathon to the Panathenaic Stadium. Tarus clocked a time of 2 hours, 17 minutes, 45 seconds. Four of the first six runners were Kenyans. Greece’s highest placed athlete was Yiannis Kanellopoulos who came in seventh. Chikako Ogushi of Japan was the fastest woman with a time of 2 hours, 40 minutes and 45 seconds.
