Easy win for Olympiakos

Olympiakos maintained its two-point lead at the top of the soccer Super League with a comfortable 4-0 win over struggling Larissa at the Karaiskaki Stadium last night. The Piraeus club opened the scoring in the 14th minute with Nigerian Haruna Babangida. A free kick from Brazilian star Rivaldo made it 2-0 early in the second half. Ecuadorian Felix Borja and Haris Pappas rounded off the scoring. Panathinaikos, in second place, survived an early shock to beat Apollon Kalamarias 3-2 at the Olympic Stadium thanks to two goals from Dimitris Papadopoulos and one from fellow striker Dimitris Salpigidis. Third-placed AEK kept up the pressure with a 2-1 win at Aegaleo despite having two players sent off. Both of AEK’s goals came from penalties struck by Brazilian Julio Cesar. Olympiakos leads the league with 30 points from 12 games, two ahead of Panathinaikos and three ahead of AEK. In the weekend’s other games, it was: Ionikos-OFI Crete, 0-2; Iraklis-Kerkyra, 1-0; Panionios-Atromitos, 0-0; Xanthi-PAOK, 1-0; and Ergotelis-Aris, 0-1.
