A police officer stands over…

A police officer stands over the site where a train derailed in Sindos, close to Thessaloniki, yesterday. The intercity train was traveling from Alexandroupolis in northeastern Greece to Athens when the last carriage ran off the tracks. None of the 100 passengers on board the train were hurt, authorities said. ‘There was human error of some kind,’ Hellenic Railways Organization board member Dimitris Karapanos told NET Television, but authorities did not elaborate on what caused the accident. But Karapanos added that the train’s driver ‘managed to bring the train almost to a halt before one of the cars derailed.’ The passengers completed their journey to Athens by bus.
