Gentle and effective way of restoring beaches

Throughout the world and in particular in areas where coastal erosion is relentless, the most effective solution is to restore the seafront with the sand that was lost. Sand is taken from a great depth in the sea – over 80 meters – to build up the coast. Removing sand from beaches, rivers or shallow areas in the sea is illegal and punishable as a crime. By replenishing the beach with sand, its size is increased and the coast is restored, thus buying time. This is how the beaches in Florida were saved. This of course does not take three months nor can it be done by just anyone. The process takes years – up to five years to be completed properly and for a beach to be restored to its initial size. It is a gentle and effective way of restoring the coast to its natural state. The Greek state should find out more details about this solution instead of municipalities and port authorities building arbitrary breakwaters and land projections due to ignorance as to how to combat the problem.
