Police bust underage sex ring

A prostitution ring alleged to have offered prospective clients the services of girls as young as 13 has been broken up following the arrest of a 55-year-old bar owner in the small town of Domokos, in central Greece, police in Lamia said yesterday. The bar owner was indicted to appear before an investigating magistrate after allegedly offering the services of a 13-year-old Bulgarian girl to an undercover police officer who visited the bar. The bar owner was given 100 euros in premarked bills by the undercover officer and there followed a police raid on the bar. Two Bulgarian women, aged 20 and 21, were detained by police but subsequently released. The 13-year-old girl was taken to a local hospital for temporary protection until authorities decide whether or not to send her to a women’s hostel. Meanwhile, the teenager’s parents, aged 37 and 26, have been charged with acting as accessories to solicitation and neglecting to supervise a minor. Police are seeking another two Bulgarian nationals believed to be members of the alleged prostitution ring.
