Muslim residents of Athens gathered outside City Hall on Saturday to celebrate an anniversary marking the birth of the Prophet Muhammad. More than 500 worshippers took part in the celebration organized by the Pakistani Community of Greece. The government is to spend 15 million euros on building an official mosque by 2010. This mosque will replace private prayer houses set up in basements, apartments and converted coffee houses and used by tens of thousands of immigrants.
