Sex ring busted after victim escapes brothel
A prostitution ring believed to have been forcing young Romanian women into a punishing schedule as sex workers has been broken up following the arrest of two Greeks, a father and son, and two Romanian brothers, police in Athens said yesterday. Police carried out the arrests after being briefed by a Romanian woman who escaped from a brothel in the central district of Metaxourgeio. The four suspects were subsequently arrested and four Romanian women detained. According to the escaped woman’s testimony, the women were lured to Greece from Romania on the promise of jobs as cleaners. They were then allegedly kept in an apartment in Pangrati and forced to work as prostitutes in various brothels. The woman who escaped said she had been forced to receive between 25 and 45 clients during her eight-hour shift for 20 euros a client.
