Prime Minister…

Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis (r) greets visiting Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas at the Maximos Mansion in Athens yesterday. Karamanlis pledged his ‘full and active support for the creation of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state.’ He also stressed Greece’s willingness to ‘assist in a bilateral capacity.’ Abbas appealed for an end to a year of economic sanctions against the Palestinian Authority. ‘If the international community wants to help us, it must lift this embargo,’ he said, adding that peace in the Middle East ‘could extinguish conflagrations in all flash points of the world.’
