Safety equipment
Before leaving port, the boat’s operator should check the following items are on board: – three hand-held flares, one smoke flare; – a fire extinguisher; – a white light, a red light on the port and green light on the starboard beam; – a life belt attached to a rope of at least 15 meters in length; – a sea anchor; – a first-aid kit, flashlight, transistor radio, pair of oars; wlife jackets for each person on board plus additional life jackets for a further 10 percent of the total number on board. The boat operator is also responsible for checking the craft for leaks, along with adequacy of fuel supplies as well as the weather forecast.
