EU ‘mistake’ on Cyprus
Addressing the Bundestag recently, Chancellor Angela Merkel said the accession of Cyprus to the EU before solving all the problems had been a mistake. She said that the case of Cyprus «clearly showed that in future no country which has not yet solved its internal problems should be accepted as an EU member state. Otherwise, as in the case of Cyprus, the country that becomes a member can impede developments that might bring about a solution.»
