Spurned fiance cut woman’s car brakes

A Thessaloniki man will stand trial for the attempted murder of his ex-fiancee after he allegedly disabled her car brakes when she decided to break up with him, court sources said yesterday. The unnamed suspect is believed to have started harassing the woman by making threatening phone calls and abusing her after she ended their relationship. He is accused of then tampering with the brakes on her car in a bid to disable them. The woman discovered the brakes did not work as she was driving down a hill but managed to save herself by pulling the hand brake and crashing the vehicle into an embankment, police said. It was not immediately clear whether the suspect has denied the charges.
