Man who ‘hid corpse’ to be tried for murder

A 46-year-old German man, who allegedly kept the decomposing corpse of his 54-year-old German girlfriend hidden in his rented flat in Asprovaltos near Thessaloniki for more than two months, is to be tried for murder and defiling a dead person, it was revealed yesterday. According to an indictment issued by a Thessaloniki court, the unnamed German had brutally kicked Astrid Schnee, causing injuries which led to her death two days later. Schnee had been suffering from serious liver problems due to excessive alcohol abuse, a coroner said. Both she and the defendant had been drinking when, one night last December, the 46-year-old attacked the woman, according to police. Over the following two months, the man allegedly kept her corpse in his flat while he collected her pension checks. He has allegedly admitted to suffering from mental problems.
