Child hurt after being struck by teacher’s car

A 3-year-old girl was being treated in a Thessaloniki hospital yesterday after being hit by a car driven by a schoolteacher who was later arrested. The hit-and-run incident occurred yesterday morning in the yard of a primary school in the village of Chryssoupolis, northern Greece. The mother of the young girl took the child to school so she could accompany her older brother to the inauguration ceremony for the new academic year. The unnamed female teacher had allegedly parked her car in the schoolyard and the principal asked her to move it before the ceremony. In her attempt to move the car, the teacher hit the child and then fled the scene, according to the local mayor, Savvas Michailidis. The child was taken to the hospital in Kavala and then to Thessaloniki to be treated for her injuries. The teacher was arrested shortly after the incident.
