Minister’s guard loses gun at building site
A police officer has reported losing his service revolver and two clips full of nine millimeter bullets after hanging them up on a wall while he worked at a construction site, authorities said yesterday. The 38-year-old officer, who is one of the personal guards assigned to Culture Minister Giorgos Voulgarakis, said the weapon was stolen on Saturday while he worked at a building construction site owned by his wife. When he finished, he found that the bag in which he had placed the weapon had gone missing, a source said. The event has left the police red-faced as they claim to have appointed top officers to protect Voulgarakis, who was previously public order minister, after a terrorist attack against him in May last year – the second attack against the minister in three years.
