Possible new lead in Alex case

The 13 people who have been implicated in the disappearance of an 11-year-old schoolboy from Veria, northern Greece, last year are going to be given another chance to provide further testimony, it was revealed yesterday. Sources said the 13 suspects, including five schoolboys, will be called before the Council of Appeals Court Judges in Thessaloniki on September 24 to give any more information about the disappearance, and presumed death, of Alex Meshivili. The five schoolboys from Veria have been accused of murdering Alex in February 2006 and then hiding his body. Some of the boys have suggested they pushed Alex and that he fell over and struck his head. Adults are suspected of helping to dispose of the body. The latest development has come after the lawyer representing two of the schoolboys asked for his clients to appear before the court to give further details about contentious issues in the case. The move has heightened speculation that there could be a breakthrough in the case.
