Final stretch in FYROM talks
Foreign Minister Dora Bakoyannis discussed on Saturday the thorny Macedonia name issue with Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis ahead of her planned talks on Thursday in Washington with Condoleezza Rice. Meanwhile, President of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) Branko Crvenkovski slammed Greece for threatening to veto his country’s NATO bid. He was responding to a question directed at him by a Greek diplomat at a security conference in Munich. Defense Minister Evangelos Meimarakis, who was at the event, remarked afterward, «We will fight and we will win this.» FYROM’s foreign minister, Antonio Milososki, is to meet with Rice a day before Bakoyannis. United Nations mediator Matthew Nimetz will then visit Athens later this month to make his last proposal ahead of a crucial NATO summit in April.
