Row with rector leads to theft

Students at the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) yesterday stole equipment belonging to the rector in response to his decision to ban notice boards bearing political posters. The students barged into the rector’s office yesterday, the first day back from the Easter break, and stole phone and computer equipment, ignoring his secretary who was present when the theft took place. Students promised to return the equipment when the rector lifts the ban which was introduced in mid-April by the council of rectors for security reasons. «It is not possible for us to put up with this violence. The institution cannot operate like this,» said AUEB Rector Grigoris Prastakos. The students were also prohibited from having a party on university grounds due to fears of drugs being sold at the gathering.
