Plans to privatize beaches…
Campaigners join hands during a protest against the privatization of Greek beaches at the Aghios Cosmas beach in southern Athens yesterday. Protesters insist on the public’s right to freely access the Aghios Cosmas beach and others like it. The mayor of nearby Hellenikon last year went on hunger strike in protest at government plans to privatize beaches. Christos Kortzidis has repeatedly appealed for the termination of contracts allowing owners of nightclubs to take over swaths of coastland.
