FYROM FM says compromise with Athens is possible The foreign minister of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM), Antonio Milososki, has indicated that his country can reach «a reasonable compromise» with Greece but that it would defend its right for a «Macedonian identity and language.» «Macedonia is prepared for a reasonable compromise, one that would not endanger our language, identity, dignity and the right for self-determination. What we are not prepared to do is accept a dictate set by Athens,» he told local newspaper Dnevnik. SOCCER FIXTURES European opponents drawn Greek soccer champions Olympiakos will face the winner of the tie between Cypriot Anorthosis Famagusta and Rapid Vienna in the third qualifying round of the Champions League following yesterday’s draw. Provided they overcome Dinamo Tbilisi next week, Super League runners-up Panathinaikos will play the winner of the tie between Moldova’s Sheriff Tiraspol and Sparta Prague. Again, the second leg will be in Athens. The Champions League ties will be played on August 12/13 and 26/27. In the UEFA Cup, AEK were drawn to play Omonia with the first game in Nicosia, while Aris will face Croatian side Slaven Koprivnica. The ties are set for August 14 and 28. Kalamata stoning Police in Kalamata are looking for two men suspected of beating another man with rocks after a 23-year-old was admitted to hospital yesterday. The victim, who is not Greek, said that his two attackers hit him over the head with rocks as he was walking along the street. No descriptions of the suspects have been issued. Deadly break-in A 36-year-old man has been found dead in his apartment in Thessaloniki after apparently being struck on the head by an intruder, police said yesterday. The unnamed man was found by a relative and is likely to have been killed on Wednesday, according to officers who said that they found two open drawers and signs that someone had forced their way into the apartment. Rape investigation Police said yesterday that they are investigating allegations made by a 27-year-old woman that she was raped at Kypseli police station early on Thursday. The unnamed woman and a friend were taken into custody after neighbors complained that they were making too much noise at their apartment in Gyzi. One of the policemen has sued the 27-year-old for defamation. In the family Three members of the same family, including a father and his son, have been arrested in the Adendro area of Thessaloniki, police said yesterday. The three men, all Albanian nationals, were arrested after officers raided a house in the area. Police found traces of cocaine and heroin at the house as well as some 7,000 euros in cash. Fix by post Guards questioned an inmate at Trikala Prison in central Greece yesterday after they intercepted a letter containing heroin, which was destined for the prisoner. Authorities said the drug was hidden inside a ring and cross that were in the envelope.
