Green light for Golden Hall

The Council of State, Greece’s highest administrative court, yesterday rejected an appeal by environmental and business groups as well as residents of the northern Athens suburbs of Halandri and Maroussi who had attempted to prevent the opening of a new, luxury mall. Golden Hall in Maroussi opened its doors to shoppers some 10 days ago but various groups had filed an appeal with the court in a bid to halt its operation, arguing that it did not meet environmental, as well as other, regulations. The company that owns the mall, Lamda Development, argued that if the operation of the Golden Hall were to be suspended, it would risk financial ruin. The court gave the green light for the mall to continue operating as normal after finding that there were no grounds for the appeal filed by the various groups.
