Three friends die on amateur fishing trip

The bodies of three friends who had been missing since going on a fishing trip on Sunday were found by a coast guard patrol boat, the Merchant Marine Ministry said yesterday. The amateur fishermen had set sail from the area of Astakos, western Greece, on Sunday afternoon in a small boat, measuring 4.5 meters in length. It was not clear what weather conditions were like at the time the three friends took to the sea, nor have authorities said anything about what may have caused the vessel to capsize. A coast guard patrol boat was dispatched after relatives of the three men reported them missing. Coast guard officers pulled the bodies of the amateur fishermen, two of whom were aged 60 and the other 45, out of the water. The officers said that all three men had been wearing life jackets.
