A long-stemmed poppy rests on a tree trunk in the forest of Kaisariani, southeastern Athens, yesterday, when thousands of city dwellers took advantage of the fair weather to visit the capital’s few parks and green spaces. Others filled coastal cafes and even beaches as temperatures hit an unseasonably high 24 Celsius (75 Fahrenheit).
