Final farewell to Spatharis the puppet master

Wreaths adorned the main church in Maroussi, northern Athens, yesterday for the funeral of Evgenios Spatharis, the much-loved puppeteer who died at the age of 85 on Saturday. The funeral was attended by dozens of mourners, including entertainment personalities. Spatharis was Greece’s best-known exponent of the Karagiozis shadow-puppet theater, soaring to fame in the 1980s when his shows were broadcast on TV.
