Teen says priest tried to force her into vice

A 56-year-old priest faced an Athens prosecutor yesterday after allegedly trying to push into prostitution a 15-year-old girl he met in an Internet chat room. The suspect, a divorced father of two who conducted services at a church in Salamina, is alleged to have lured the girl into meeting him at a cafe in Athens’s upmarket Kolonaki district by pretending to be her age. After turning up at the cafe in plain clothes, he allegedly offered her 1,200 euros to work as a prostitute. When the girl refused, the cleric is said to have grabbed her by the arm and tried to drag her to a truck parked near the cafe. The girl managed to escape and reported the alleged incident to her father, who contacted the police. In a subsequent raid on the priest’s home, officers discovered a computer and three cell phones whose content was being analyzed yesterday.
