Volker Jung, a former manager of the communications unit at Siemens in Germany and the ex-head of the supervisory board at Siemens’s Greek subsidiary between 1998 and 2003, appeared in court in Athens yesterday as part of the investigation into the cash-for-contracts scandal. Magistrate Nikos Zagorianos gave Jung until next Thursday to prepare his defense. Jung denies any wrongdoing and insists that he had no control over the finances of Siemens Hellas. He also explained how he became a board member at Sokratis Kokkalis’s Intracom technology firm in 2003, after leaving Siemens. He left Intracom’s board in 2005.
