Korydallos helicopter flight a false alarm

People living close to Korydallos Prison must have been rubbing their eyes in disbelief on Saturday when they saw a helicopter hover and then descend to just meters over the jail in a repeat of what happened when two convicts escaped twice in the past – only this time it was a re-enactment by a local prosecutor. With the help of the police, the Piraeus prosecutor recreated the escape of hardened criminals Vassilis Palaiocostas and Alket Rizai, who were airlifted to freedom by helicopter in February this year as well as in June 2006. The judicial official was flown in a police helicopter from Athens International Airport to Korydallos Prison on Saturday afternoon. The helicopter hovered over the jail for three minutes so he could see from where the two inmates, who remain at large, had escaped.
