Robbers flee with safe in municipal vehicle

Police in Larissa, central Greece, yesterday were looking for four robbers believed to have broken into the premises of the municipal authority of Pyrgetos and to have fled with a safe weighing half a ton in a vehicle belonging to the municipality. Officers said the perpetrators used a special foam to deactivate the building’s alarm system after breaking through the main entrance. They are then thought to have made a beeline for the safe, believed to have contained some 85,000 euros, and to have hauled it out of the building and onto a municipal truck parked in front of the offices. The robbers probably acted very swiftly and appear to have been well prepared, according to police who were informed about the robbery yesterday by municipal officials though the raid is believed to have been carried out early on Thursday.
