Officers’ trial shifted again
The trial on December 15 of the two police special guards involved in the incident that led to the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Alexis Grigoropoulos last December is to take place at a court in Amfissa, central Greece, to reduce the likelihood of violent protests, it was revealed yesterday. The Supreme Court’s criminal section approved a proposal by prosecutor Yiannis Tentes for the trial to be shifted to Amfissa from Halkida, Evia. Tentes’s proposal came after police on Evia warned of announcements being uploaded onto the Internet, calling for mass protests in Halkida on December 15. Businessmen on Halkida also lodged complaints, fearing wide-scale damage to their stores. The trial of Epaminondas Korkoneas, who shot Grigoropoulos, and Vassilis Saraliotis, who had been on duty with Korkoneas at the time, had originally been scheduled to take place in Athens but was shifted to Halkida for security reasons.
