Church seeks online faithful

A new online initiative by the Bishopric of Corinth, www.churchbook.gr, aims to foster communication among members of the Greek Orthodox faithful, particularly Internet-savvy youngsters. «Church newsletters are an old-fashioned way of communicating with young people as they target older readers,» Bishop Dionysios of Corinth told Kathimerini. As its name suggests, the website has been modeled on the popular social network Facebook. It was set up by academics in Britain, the USA and the Corfu-based Ionian University and will be maintained by them, the 58-year-old bishop said. «This team of academics and volunteers will work together to guarantee members’ online security,» he said. The bishop said he intended to «chat» regularly with visitors and members of the site. «The Apostles used every method they could to deliver the Word of the Lord,» he said.
