Taxis come to a halt in Athens

A man on a bicycle rides past a line of taxis in central Athens yesterday. Cabbies were on the first of a two-day strike to protest the government’s decision to tax them according to their income rather than have them pay a flat-rate fee of just over 1,200 euros regardless of how much they earn. Under the new rules, cabbies will also have to issue receipts.
