An Athens cyclist pauses to catch his breath beside a police car blocking central Panepistimiou Avenue yesterday to all motorized traffic except for public transport. It was the final in a series of events last week intended to discourage Athenians from relying exclusively on their cars to get around the city. There are an estimated 2.3 million cars in Athens, about one for every second city-dweller. «I think we will be in a position to develop a good relationship both on a personal and an institutional level,» Gurel added.
