A Thessaloniki policeman observes heaps of rubbish dumped in a city street by angry shopowners fed up with having the malodorous piles outside their premises. In a strike that seeks to capitalize on next Sunday’s municipal and prefectural elections, Thessaloniki rubbish collectors are pressing the current mayor to pay them productivity bonuses.
