Police needs support

It?s high time for this Socialist government to decide where what scant resources this debt-ridden nation has left should go.

The tragic events of Tuesday night proved beyond a shadow of doubt that it is extremely crucial that the members of the Greek police force possess the proper equipment to do their jobs properly and in safety given that they are the first line of defense in the protection of national security.

It is a shame that the government continues to finance unionists such as GENOP, the powerful union of the Public Power Corporation, instead of offering every possible support to the police force.

The death of two policemen in the line of duty and the key role of the Greek police force in dealing with the burgeoning wave of crime and domestic terrorism should make the administration of George Papandreou realize that it must take every possible step to reinforce the core of the state and the people who risk their lives for the protecting of the common good.
