A day of pride and celebration

March 25 is a day of celebration for Greeks, a day of pride. Some, however, may see the day marking the anniversary of the beginning of the Greek War of Independence as an occasion to protest against the government or particular politicians who will be appearing at the annual parades and events to mark the public holiday.

Local communities and all political parties without exception ought to guard the celebratory parades that are organized by schools and other groups in Athens as well as in other cities around Greece against such actions.

The fact is that it does not matter who represents the government at the celebration events that will be held across the country or who sits on the officials? platform from other groups either.

What matters is that in these difficult times, when the entire nation is being tested to its limits, it is our duty to respect the legacy bequeathed upon us by the founders of modern Greece and to remember that we can achieve anything if we are united.
