Need for government reboot

Political developments this week could in fact signal the beginning of a more effective governance.

Luckily, the country was spared a snap poll that would most certainly cause political instability and further damage to the nation’s credibility in the eyes of its foreign peers.

That said, it is more crucial than ever to reboot the power-sharing government by picking the best available political personnel out there.

With his address to the nation, Prime Minister Antonis Samaras has sent out a clear message. Similarly, PASOK chief Evangelos Venizelos showed responsibility and determination. Their example must be followed by those New Democracy and PASOK ministers who have been dragging their feet over key reforms.

Most importantly, Greece must not lose its footing amid the political turmoil. For the country to move forward, the prime minister and all members of the new administration need to show courage and determination.
