MARKEZINIS AFFAIR: New York, 2 – There have been intensive contacts between Greek authorities and the Greek community of New York regarding the welcome for the Greek minister for coordination, Mr Spyros Markezinis, and his delegation, who are due to arrive here on Tuesday morning (May 5). The question is whether Mr Markezinis is to appear at a ball hosted by the Friends of the Village, the New York Greek community’s main annual social event, to be given at the luxury Sherry Netherland hotel on May 7. The dance has been organized by the ladies of the Greek diplomatic service along with the wives of the shipowners, diplomats and other members of the Greek community; the latest fashions are to be shown at the ball. ARRESTS: Interior Minister Pafsanias Lykourezos yesterday visited Prime Minister Field Marshal Alexandros Papagos and briefed him on the attempt by communists a few days ago to disrupt a labor conference at the Kentrikon Theater. The minister said that 53 arrests had been made. «Apart from four who were released, the rest have a long record of communist agitation and were in Athens on special leave from internal exile. They were returned to their place of exile. The others were referred to a security committee as being dangerous to public security.» These measures will be adopted whenever similar incidents recur.
