Don’t scare the tourists away

Reports so far suggest that this summer will see a record number of tourism arrivals to Greece. This is expected to create thousands of jobs for people here and give a much-needed boost to the local economy.

One of the reasons prospects have improved this year is increased political stability and the absence of rioting. In the past few years, a large number of conferences were cancelled and many visitors had to modify their schedules as they feared that their plans might be disrupted by the recurring strikes and, sometimes violent, protests.

This fear is mostly gone now and we must make sure it does not return. Regardless of any political disagreements we may have, we all have a duty to protect our nation by refraining from extreme or violent protests during the summer months. We need stability and a welcoming atmosphere. These should not be sacrificed on the altar of partisan or unionist interests.
