ADLAI STEVENSON: Adlai Stevenson, head of the Democratic Party in the USA, who is currently in Athens, yesterday visited the joint leaders of the Liberal Party Messrs Sophocles Venizelos and George Papandreou, with whom he discussed the domestic situation in Greece. Mr Stevenson then visited the leader of the EPEK party Gen. Nikolaos Plastiras for a further discussion of issues affecting Greece. In the afternoon, he attended a luncheon with the king with his son and US Ambassador Mr John Peurifoy. Later, in the evening, he attended a dinner given in his honor by the coordination minister, Mr Spyros Markezinis, at his home. ARRESTS: During celebrations marking the beauty paegent to elect Miss Star Hellas, and despite the police ban, groups of men and women gathered at Kalamaki at a distance of about 200 meters from the Argentina Club and began to jeer. A large police force broke up the demonstration and arrested 52 people, including Archimandrite Avgoustinos Kandiotis. SOCIAL LIFE: A very smart crowd of Athenians attended the ceremony at the Argentina to watch the above-mentioned beauty paegent. They included Constantine Tsaldaris, Sophocles Venizelos, D. Karellas, C. Katsambas and their wives, Anna Synodinou and Panos Kakkas.
