Reining in the populists
A number of Greece’s ministers have misunderstood their role and are harming the country.
Instead of putting their ministries in order, these individuals are trying to cast themselves as popular heroes by publicly denouncing the troika. They boost populist sentiment and sensationalize issues that should be the subject of serious negotiation.
What’s worse is that they have their own agendas, but their stance reflects on the prime minister and the government in general.
Prime Minister Antonis Samaras needs to get these ministers in line and explain to them that you cannot demand serious negotiations on issues that have been rendered a populist battle cry. Of course these politicians understand nothing but publicity stunts and power games with unionists.
They are a part of the old political system and should not be a part of the present government, nor, though, should they be able to find allies within it either.
