Improving universities
The hope for better, merit-based universities in this country must not be abandoned.
Fortunately, under highly adverse conditions, some healthy and dynamic groups of professors are putting up a serious fight for modern, operating universities.
University council administrations, whose members include leading figures from both within Greece and abroad, are also playing an important role in this direction.
Standing up to all the violence, the vested interests and a certain amount of irrationality that one comes across at Greek universities is not an easy or self-evident task.
Those who are prepared to stand up to it all demonstrate great courage and offer hope that our children will some day enjoy the kind of educational institutions they deserve – open-door universities as opposed to islands of mediocrity, cronyism and illicit exchange.
